ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Chochmat HaLev Ensemble is a merry band of avant-kabbalists that enjoys making music for ecstatic and contemplative ritual. The group formed in early 2000 in Berkeley around the growing musical needs of a Jewish meditation community and has expanded to all kinds of mystical and musical wanderings...
- Brian Schachter-Brooks is an aspiring mystic and liturgical trickster, all this despite his years of serious composition training at Eastman School of Music.
- When not studying in Turkey, Eliyahu Sills, leads a number Middle Eastern musical projects on various flutes and basses (www.eliyahusills.com).
- Aharon Wheels Bolsta can be found Tabla-ing and Darbuka-ing and sometimes trapping at www.rhythmwheels.com.
- Bon Singer, after leading famed Balkan ensemble Kitka, now leads the womens vocal Ya Elah in the Bay Area.
- Jhos Singer can be seen and heard as Maggid of the Coastside Jewish Community in Pacifica and in various roles as singer and percussionist throughout the area.
- Guitarist Dave Cohen can be seen at Jhos's side at the Coastside Jewish Community as well as teaching eco-Torah throughout the Bay Area.
- Cyrise Beatty manages and sings in Ya Elah and helps brings spirituality though her music at Chochmat HaLev and in her teaching of children.
- Rabbi Sara Shendelman leads the Jewish Arts and Culture School and frequently leads services and rituals in Berkeley.
- Bassist/cellist Artyom Ash globetrots between India and Berkeley, trying to make himself as useful as possible.
